Preparations for Eurovision 2027 in Burgas are already beginning to reshape the city’s air connectivity. Discover Airlines will increase its flights to Burgas Airport in May 2027, expanding connections from two of Germany’s largest aviation hubs – Munich and Frankfurt. The move is particularly important for international visitors travelling to the Eurovision Song Contest. Both German airports are major Lufthansa Group hubs, offering convenient connections to numerous European and intercontinental destinations.
Extra flights from Germany to Burgas for Eurovision 2027
Discover Airlines already operates routes between Germany and Burgas, but in 2027 the airline will bring forward the start of its seasonal services significantly due to the expected demand surrounding Eurovision in Burgas.
Flights between Munich and Burgas will begin on 5 May 2027, instead of the originally planned date of 2 June. The Frankfurt–Burgas service will start on 9 May, rather than 16 May.
This will give German Eurovision fans direct access to Burgas just ahead of the most important week of the competition. Another major advantage is that travellers from other countries will be able to reach the Bulgarian Black Sea coast via connecting flights through Munich or Frankfurt.
Combined with Austrian Airlines flights via Vienna, Lufthansa Group airlines will provide connections to Burgas through their hubs every day between 8 and 13 May – immediately ahead of the Grand Final.
Burgas Airport working to secure more international flights
The expansion of Discover Airlines’ schedule is part of a broader trend. Burgas Airport continues to work actively with international airlines to increase frequencies and add new routes ahead of Eurovision 2027. The airport already has an extensive international network. In 2026 alone, it offers direct connections to more than 70 international destinations. Planning for the summer 2027 schedule is still underway, meaning that further routes and additional flights could be announced in the coming months.
This is important not only for Eurovision itself. Improved air connectivity could give Burgas and the southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast an additional international boost just before the start of the peak summer tourist season.
Bulgaria Air, Austrian Airlines and Jet2 also increase flights
Discover Airlines is not the only carrier adjusting its schedule for Eurovision 2027.
Bulgaria Air will increase flights between Sofia and Burgas from 2 to 19 May, with up to two flights per day on selected dates. This will also make it easier for international visitors arriving in Sofia to continue their journey to Burgas.
Austrian Airlines is bringing forward the launch of its seasonal Vienna–Burgas service considerably. Flights will begin as early as 8 May, with additional connections planned around key Eurovision dates. Vienna is a major international hub, providing onward connections not only across Europe but also to a range of long-haul destinations.
UK airline Jet2 is also increasing capacity to Burgas. Additional flights have been announced from Birmingham, Manchester, East Midlands and Glasgow, while the airline’s wider network will allow passengers to travel to Burgas from 11 UK airports.
Eurovision 2027 puts Burgas on the international map
Burgas will host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest, with the Semi-Finals taking place on 11 and 13 May, followed by the Grand Final on 15 May 2027. The contest will be staged at Arena Burgas.
The city is expected to welcome performers, national delegations, international media and tens of thousands of visitors, while the event itself will reach a television audience of millions around the world.
The expansion of flights from Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom, together with additional domestic connections from Sofia, shows that preparations are already extending well beyond the music event itself.
If ongoing discussions with international airlines result in further routes, Eurovision 2027 could become one of the strongest catalysts for Burgas’ international visibility and air connectivity in recent years.
